Happy International Women’s Day!
In the last week, I’ve run across a handful of great images inspired by or remixing Rosie the Riveter that I’d like to share. We can do it!
I found this one (left) when I was conferencing with students, many of whom are researching World War II. It was posted prominently at the British National Archives. I think it’s a great representation of how women’s war effort was essential to the war. I also think it’s interesting that I found it at the British archives, since Rosie the Riveter is such an American icon.
Though I can’t remember where I found it, I love this second one for it’s message about the intersection of race, class, and religion with feminism. We all can do it!
Finally, this third one below was posted by A Girl’s Guide to Taking Over the World on Facebook this morning, Some of the images are silly. but some are really great. I especially like the Rosies with babies, hijabs, a nun’s habit, and that we’ve got Katniss in there.
It’s been a busy week with Midterms and exams reading list things. I’m pretty burned out but now it’s Spring Break! Coming soon will be some posts about April Ludgate, Girl Up, and the Girl Scouts.
